Some magical songs reach to different musicians and become more magical. With an added note, new beats and sometimes just guitar or flute, a song can be restyled to bring freshness. Indian song industry had witnessed so many brilliant tracks remade by new singers, sometimes famous and sometimes newcomers. Sometimes the original song gets superseded by its cover. Covers also give us a different taste of the same sweet. Making a cover also brings the pressure of comparison with the original song and its singer. But they surely bring joy to our ears by reinvigorating the faded energy of an old song.

Some of the famous cover of Hindi songs that are bliss to our soul.

 

  1. Teri Deewani – Zayn Malik

When in 2019, Zayn Malik released his second Hindi song Cover – “Teri Deewani”, the world was shaken by his surreal performance on a legendry song originally sung by the great Kailash Khair. Indian appreciated his efforts of trying to sing Hindi songs as he has also sung “Allah Ke Bande” before. Zayn Malik, an English singer, has Pakistani roots and his voice does have Asian charm.

 

  1. Nawazishein – By Nupur Sanon

The coke studio famous, “Nawazishein Karam (Tera Vo Pyar)” beautiful melody voiced by Momina Mustehsan was reprised by Nupur Sanon. When we all got introduced with Pakistani singer Momina’s stupendous voice with the song “Afreen Afreen” on coke studio, we all wanted to hear her more. Nawazishein Karam was one of those songs that gave us one more reason to love Pakistani music.

Nupur Sanon, who’s the younger sister of Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon is an outstanding musical artist. She has infused the same mellifluence that Momina had put in the original.

 

  1. Yeh Raaten Yeh Mausam – Sanam Puri

A song from our grandparent’s generation was excellently transported to ours by Sanam puri and his band. The original sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle gives us goosebumps with its romantic lyrics. Sanam band is famous for recreating old songs especially from the 1950s – 70s.

Sanam is the country’s biggest musical artist on YouTube. Sanam has recreated many old songs like “Ek Pyar ka Nagma”, “Humein Tumse Pyar Kitna”, “Kahin Door”, “Lag Ja Gale” etc. The band has also composed original songs like “Fakira” and even won an award for its “Itni Door” in 2019.

 

  1. Udd Ja Kaale Kanwan – Vicky Singh and also Amandeep Singh

Udit Narayan had sung this song in 2001 for Gadar movie. The song was a hit of the year. And then it got lost in the oblivion. Vicky Singh has made a cover of this heart touching song in 2017 and grabbed the attention of the audience with his serene voice perfect fit for the song.

Another cover of the same song was made by Amandeep Singh by slightly editing its lyrics. Although the new lyrics are in sync with the modern requirement which makes the track a bit more refreshing

 

  1. Halka Halka – Farhaan Saeed

No one can beat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan who has been a great influence in various South Asian and even international artists like Jeff Buckley, Zayn Malik and A. R. Rahman etc. He has sung a world-famous gazhal “Halka Halka” which was released in 1991. The ghazal was revoiced by many musicians. Among them, the most famous one is by Farhaan Saeed who is also a Pakistani singer. Farhaan has given a tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan by this cover. This song and its lyrics reached to different continents and the public’s heart.

 

  1. Khair Mangdi x Sandcastles Mashup cover – Vidya Vox and Devender Pal Singh

Vidya Vox is an Indian-American YouTuber musical artist. Her mashups are the fusion of Western and Indian songs. Her mashup cover of Kabira x Closer became most popular. I guess it got famous because of the prominence of the original songs. However, her other works have the same potential and allure to tempt the audience. Among others, Khair Mangdi and Sandcastles mash-up cover is an enchanting work of art. The original “Khair Mangdi” is sung by Bilal Saeed and “Sandcastles” is an original by Vidya Vox.

 

  1. Aaj Jane Ki zid Naa Karo – By Arijit Singh

This song has its origin in the Pakistani soil. It was beautifully sung by Farida Khanum and later it was re-sun by many Indian Artists. Asha Bhosle sang it for the movie “Monsoon Wedding”. Lastly, Arijit Singh, the soulful playback singer performed the song for the TV show “Naamkarann” and later it was recreated by music composer Pritam and added to the film “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”.

 

  1. Ghar se nikalte hee – Amaal Malik

This song originally by Udit Narayan was recreated by Amaal Malik. The song is like honey on the tongue. The music is serene just as Amaal Malik’s other composition. After recreating Hardy Sandhu’s “Soch” as “Soch Na Sake” along with Arijit Singh, he has taken us all aback by his brilliant singing. Amaal is a gem to the Indian music industry for sure.
